AD Sangreal by the Mandalaband lead by the brilliant talents of David Rohl is an extraordinary CD with 15 amazing tracks. The AD Sangreal music focuses on the Roman Empire and the early middle ages telling the legendary history of the Holy Grail. This CD is dedicated to Stuart Wooly Wolstenholme one of the Mandalaband members who passed away in December of 2010. The opening track on this CD is A Bloodline Born featuring Marc Atkinson who happens to be one of my favorite male vocalists. Every single thing about this CD is great, and elaborate!!! It is meticulously produced in every detail. The music, the lyrics, the orchestrations, the vocals and the CD cover design by Ed Unitsky are beyond words. My first reaction when I listened to the entire CD was WOW this music is meant to be the background for a major Broadway play or a very well-produced epic film. It is rare to experience such a high level of creativity, musicianship and mastery. AD Sangreal is such an amazing collaboration. Everyone who participated in the development of this recording should be pleased. This CD is not meant to be down loaded. In order to truly have the entire extraordinary, majestic Mandalaband experience you must purchase the hard copy so you can enjoy the beautiful detailed colorful booklet as well as the music. I absolutely love Lesson Number One developed by Smart Music Entertainment. It is creative, educational ,entertaining and innovative. It features ten major tracks plus two bonus tracks. The CD starts out with a powerful introduction followed by Kings & Queens, Slavery, Invent, First 25 Presidents, Cash Flow, Congress Women, Moors, 50 States, It’s A War, Congress Women(remix) and Drugs. What amazes me is that Larry Lak Henderson and his team were able to incorporate so much historical information in a couple of minutes. Smart Music has taken Hip Hop music to another level. This project should be incorporated in school systems and communities everywhere. Smart Music has no limits because educational music is great for anyone at any age at any time. I am enjoying this track so much I had to repeat it a couple of times. It is certainly a sign of a great CD when you want to repeat the tracks. It then becomes a never ending musical journey. I would say that this Progressive Rock band from Israel will take you on a special journey that you will never forget and all you have to do is purchase the CD and enjoy the ride. How I Would Help The World By Helen Keller (1880 -1968) with an Introduction by Rev. Dr. Ray Silverman is a precious, little book written by this iconic inspirational woman who was stricken with a disease that left her blind and deaf. Despite her obvious challenges she went on to learn to read and to write and was the first blind and deaf person to earn a college degree when she graduated from Radcliffe College. In this book Helen Keller shares her heartfelt feelings and appreciation for Emanuel Swedenborg referring to him as “one of the noblest champions true Christianity has ever known,” she said, “Swedenborg’s message has been my greatest incitement to overcome limitation.” The book starts out with a powerful introduction by Rev. Dr. Ray Silverman. “When we consider the life of such an inspiring person, we may wonder how Helen Keller was able to overcome her limitations and become such a powerful force for good. What was the source of her inner strength, undaunted optimism, and noble aspiration? She was an inspiration to millions, and continues to be so today. But who inspired Helen?” Well the answer to that question is that Helen Keller was a spiritual independent woman deeply touched by Emanuel Swedenborg the Swedish scientist, philosopher, Christian mystic who lived from 1688 – 1772. In reading the words of Helen Keller and the writings of this mystic seer one can easily understand why she was so moved by Swedenborg. The works of Swedenborg takes one beyond the limitation of the physical earth into the spirit world of unlimited possibilities. While I am reflecting on Morre, this wonderful band from Canada I am listening to Contrast their latest CD released on The Melodic Revolution Records label. Believe me at this moment while listening to Morre I am not sitting still. Each tune just flows perfectly and melodiously from one to the next. Individually each track stands solid adding a special dimension to the entire CD experience. I love their sound which is why I play their music so often on my radio program and I will continue to do so. Morre is exciting and one of the best independent bands on the music scene today. They are excellent musicians with a great, carefully produced, meticulous sound and they have an amazing stage presence which is obvious by watching their videos. If there is any band on the scene today that deserves to be recognized on a global scale it is definitely Morre. They are more than studio musicians. Embodying Osiris The Secrets of Alchemical Transformation by Thom F. Cavalli, Ph.D. is a groundbreaking integration of Jungian Psychology, Alchemy and Egyptian Mythology. This is a fascinating book that takes you into the life of Osiris the Egyptian God of fertility, death, resurrection and the leader of the underworld. The Egyptians view death as an integral part of the journey into the afterlife or eternal life. In this book Dr. Cavalli explains, “Through a deep understanding we learn that death is not to be feared. Once the fear of death is gone then the journey of life is transformed. Instead, death is a teacher that shows us how creating comes by way of loss and regeneration.” What is so great about this book is that it actually helps us to create unlimited possibilities simply by embracing the stillness, facing our fears, and then releasing them to allow a clearing so the light of life can take hold. Journey Into America The Challenge Of Islam by Ambassador Akbar Ahmed is a detailed study on how Muslims fit into American communities. Ambassador Ahmed is the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University in Washington, DC. According to The Religious Tolerance Organization and the Pew Forum, “in 2010 it was estimated that there were approximately 1.57 billion Muslims in the world. Muslims in the world represent about 22% of the world’s population and they are the second largest religion in the world and Islam is growing about 2.9% per year which is faster than the world population which is increasing approximately 2.3% annually.” According to Ambassador Ahmed there are nearly 7 million Muslims who live in the United States today and the relationship between Muslims and non-Muslims has been strained since 9/11. What is great about Ambassador Ahmed’s study is that it is comprehensive and it helps to dispel many of the myths while hopefully being a catalyst to stimulate dialogue which will possibly and eventually lead to a greater understanding of what it is like to be Muslim in America. I am sure that Ambassador Ahmed hopes that his work will inspire the reader to go beyond the stereotype and to truly connect person to person heart to heart rather than just viewing every Muslim as a potential terrorist. This impressive project by Ambassador Ahmed and his team also provides a glimpse of the interfaith work that is being done to heal the tension between Muslims and non-Muslims. Ambassador Ahmed makes it clear that it is important that we all work together as a team to create more harmony. Journey Into America is available as a book and a DVD. I also suggest that you also read Ambassador Ahmed’s book Journey Into Islam The Crisis Of Globalization. Ambassador Ahmed and his team traveled extensively in the U.S. and around the world to compile this information in two books and a video. Reading this body of work by Ambassador Ahmed and his team is certainly a great beginning for anyone who is interested in understanding Islam and a great tool for any individual or organization interested in doing interfaith work with Muslims and non-Muslims. Who would think that back in 1984 that a group of musicians from the UK would team up with a singer from Los Angeles to create music that was overlooked then but receiving rave reviews today. Perhaps without knowing it BunChakeze was creating a futuristic project. I am actually listening to this CD as I am writing this review and the music on this CD is absolutely amazing. I keep wondering what on earth were those record executives thinking when they turned down such incredible music. It has such dimension and so many harmonic intricacies. Everything about this CD is great including the lyrics which flows so well with the music. Let’s not forget the CD cover which captures your attention. Please don’t ask me which track is my favorite because honestly I cannot decide. I guess it is the tune that is playing at the moment. The entire CD is great so I strongly suggest that you purchase the full CD and sit back and enjoy the music of BunChakeze. Whose Dream is a perfect release for this moment in time. When I started reading this book it was my intent to read a few pages and to continue it at another time. It was such a captivating, heart moving read that I could not put down the softness, the tenderness that it inspired. I felt such a great sense of warmth, compassion and love in my heart that I was speechless. It is a very powerful experience when the writer can actually write about kindness and ignite it in the heart of the reader. This book is genuinely a warm and sensitive read that goes beyond words. Quite honestly anything that I write, anything that I say would be inadequate and certainly fall short of the experience I had reading this precious book by this gentle soul. This is a true story of surrender, survival and triumph. Susanna is no longer in a polygamous household. She is in a traditional marriage with a wonderful husband and six children. She was able to overcome her paralyzing childhood to become an activist speaking out against abuse. Her triumph is encouraging and inspirational. Her memoir is an important book to read. Now I must say the first reaction I had when I heard this CD was…..wow…who is this!!! And when I said that I meant it to be positively affirmative. Yes!!!Yes!!!Yes!!!Guitarist Todd Clouser incorporates so many sounds in his music, funk, jazz and sometimes he takes it to another level and becomes esoteric. He will break out into these avant garde sounds and then he slows it down to give you a bit of soft and tender. He is very much influenced by Curtis Mayfield and he composed a wonderful tune in honor of this creative musical genius who should always be remembered for his contribution to music. It is toe tapping, finger snapping music that will keep you moving. Todd obviously wanted to go for it so he did. He is all over the moving musical map. All in all I say this CD is truly electric!!! The prophecies of Nostradamus have been an ongoing debate for many years. The Essential Nostradamus by Richard Smoley is a thorough read on this iconic man of widespread speculation, prophecy and mystery. What I like about this book is that it is a straight up no-nonsense historical read. It does not exaggerate the psychic abilities of Nostradamus to make him appear larger than life. In this very well documented practical book you get to see Nostradamus as a real earthly man who may have had some extraordinary psychic abilities. Then again his widely perceived intuitive gift may have consisted of a combination of insight with a bit of luck added to the mix. Or perhaps his prophecies were so broadly predicted you could easily and conveniently apply them to certain historical events. This book just adds a very refreshing dimension to the on-going debate on Nostradamus which is so prominently featured in documentaries and many tabloid magazines. In fact I suspect that Nostradamus has been a headliner probably much more than even he could have ever predicted. I would say that it is a great probability that Nostradamus will be a prominent figure in the prophecy arena for many more years. Certifiably Jonathan a comedic documentary Starring Jonathan Winters is Directed by Jim Pasternak, Produced by Richard Marshall and Executive Produced by Matt Fortnow. The film includes appearances by David Arquette, Patricia Arquette, Tim Conway, Nora Dunn, Jimmy Kimmel, Howie Mandel, Rob Reiner, Sarah Silverman, Jeffrey Tambor and Robin Williams. I must say that I was not aware of the brilliant work of Jonathan Winters until I watched this unique hybrid comedy/documentary. While watching this film it became progressively funny to the point in which I practically had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. Even with the serious moments it was so much fun. There were so many times while watching this film in which I could not tell whether it was scripted or not. Quite honestly I am still not sure about certain things so there are questions that are still unanswered. I will definitely watch this again just to catch what I missed the first time. This is a fantastic documentary. I loved it. Comedy has no bounderies. If you are funny you are funny. Jonathan Winters is definitely funny and I can see why so many of our comic greats love him as well. Several comedians appeared in this documentary because Jonathan Winters has inspired many with his gift of comic relief. Buddy Judge kept the story moving with his compositional talents. I have never really given much thought to the deeper meaning of procrastination and what the implications are when we delay moving forward by not getting things done. That is of course until I read this book which I truly enjoyed. According to Dr. Ferrari everyone procrastinates but not everyone is a procrastinator. Certainly there are varying degrees of procrastination that sometimes merely slows the process and in other cases it may actually bring things to a grinding halt. His goal in writing this book is to enlighten you, inform you and inspire you to change. He wants to help people to get moving. What is so great about this book is that you will learn about procrastination in great detail and really see why it is so important to understand it. Dr. Ferrari does not hold anything back on the subject. I love this work by Dr. Ferrari because it gives valuable insights on a much needed topic. Imagine the progress we could make in society if we could eliminate procrastination. I say take a positive definitive step forward to stop procrastinating. A good way to begin the process is to read this book. You may help yourself and you may be able to help others as well. I started reading this book very early one Monday morning and I did not move until I finished the book. The Cynical Idealist is just that compelling. It is a page turner indeed. This book does not exploit John Lennon. If any thing it is a warm tribute to a man who knew that all we need is love and pleaded that we give peace a chance. It is rather ironic that one who lived for love and peace would die at the hands of violence. It not only gives you a great biographical picture of John Lennon but it also provides a glimpse into the history and the often turbulent times when he lived on this earth. If you are a John Lennon fan you will love this book because it shares another dimension of his personality that is often overlooked or misunderstood. In Greek apeiro means boundless or infinite and phobia means fear. Thus Apeirophobia is the fear of infinity. It is said that people who have Apeirophobia try to live predictable lives. After listening to the CD Apeirophobia the Melodic Revolution Records release by Ifsounds I can honestly say there is nothing at all predictable about this CD. This CD is carefully orchestrated and meticulously produced. It is an amazing creation by a group who has managed to truly create their own sound. It is quite obvious that Apeirophobia is deeply inspired as it takes you on an enchanting musical journey that is filled with thoughtful lyrics and haunting melodies that are absolutely unforgettable creating a feeling of unlimited possibilities for this group and their future in music. When I listen to Apeirophobia I just want to hear more and more music created by this wonderful group from Italy called Ifsounds. If there is one thing that I can say about Ifsounds is that their sound is big and hopefully here to stay indefinitely. I also must mention the distinctive CD Cover design created by Andrea Pinti. It truly reflects in art the musical essence of this incredible Ifsounds release. Ifsounds has definitely captured my attention. But then again how could one not be moved by music such as this that is inspired, creative, originating from the heart and the soul. We get a great overview of the history, the culture, the beauty, the philosophy and the heart of the regions indigenous people who use this fruit to adorn their bodies with elaborate creative ornamentations. When I first heard about this story I was excited about the entire concept. It is a detailed riveting page turner that is filled with so much history and depth interwoven with an incredibly creative, intriguing and compelling seemingly realistic story line that has all the elements in place for a major box office big screen hit. Pope Annalisa is Book One of the First Souls Trilogy by Peter Canova. If this is the beginning I can not even imagine what Peter has in store for us in Book Two and Book Three. I am looking forward to the continuing story. This is a great read and I will be right there to see the story of Pope Annalisa come to life on the big screen. Someone contacted me and asked me to listen to Shy-Anne’s music and to consider having her as a guest on my show. When I listened to her stunning original music my initial reaction was wow what an amazing talent. This wonderful Canadian Aboriginal songbird was selected to be the opening act for the G8 Summit. Well I can see why. Shy-Anne is a natural singer and composer with a soothing and calming voice that just stays with you. Shy-Anne sings from the heart to the heart. Her music is very much connected to her earthy roots that are so deep. It is hard for me to decide which tune is my favorite. Fire and Ancient Voices are two of her best and most moving compositions. Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy by Tina Turbin is a delightful story about a little boy by the name of Jimmy who finds a beautiful green and white shell. This is no ordinary shell. In fact it becomes quite extraordinary when Jimmy hears a voice that gives him a warm hello. The friendly voice in the shell is Danny the Dragon who eventually pops out along with his navigator, Skipper to have a very special visit with Jimmy and his family which includes sharing a meal, helping with clearing the table and doing the dishes and then having a wonderful time at play.

When I read this story it took me back to my childhood and the joy that I received in collecting shells and listening to what I thought was the sound of the sea. I always felt that an entire unknown world lived within the sea shells because of the sound that seemed to emanate from them. The imagination and the creativity of children is such a wonderful thing especially when it seems to come to life and to light in such a positive way. Danny The Dragon is friendly, cheerful, helpful and very polite. Danny The Dragon is a welcome visitor for any child and from the way it seems he will return with another adventure. Danny The Dragon is also available as a CD and DVD. The CD features an audio version of the book and ten wonderful original classical compositions by Ali Heinwein, Lisa Miller, Jason Turbin and Janis Welch. You can see why this wonderful story is a Best Books Award Finalist. This book was truly an eye opener for me because I had not given this subject matter much thought because like so many others I did not realize how much it is needed. The fact is that organ donation does save lives. While it is difficult to experience the passing of a loved one it is a beautiful and very comforting thought to know that their heart still beats creating a pulse for the life of another. Elizabeth Pratt lived her life as an active, health conscious athletic beautiful dancer. So it was actually very surprising to hear that this vibrant energetic person needed a heart transplant. Elizabeth Pratt is here today because she was able to get a new heart from her donor Patricia. In the book Elizabeth shares her heart warming experiences meeting her donor’s family. I have always wanted to learn more about the Aboriginal people of Australia and what better source then to read the story of the Wisdom Man Banjo Clarke - The compassionate life and beliefs of a remarkable Aboriginal Elder as told to Camilla Chance. Banjo Clarke met Camilla over 25 years ago despite the fact that it would seem unlikely that their paths would cross. She is from the family of exclusive English Aristocracy and Banjo was a humble Elder of the Aboriginal people. There are no accidents it seems because these two were destined to meet and they developed a friendship that lasted for over 25 years. I loved this book because it truly gave me a sense of Aboriginal life and culture because Banjo spoke honestly and directly from the heart. So I say if you are interested in learning and understanding the Aboriginals then read the words of Banjo Clarke. Now one might ask why an Aboriginal Elder would tell his story to Camilla. It is better to hear the response directly from Banjo Clarke who answers the question in his own words.

After Banjo was discharged from the hospital Camilla and her family took him in to care for him and he was quite touched by the experience.

Banjo said, “And she and her family looked after me. I thought. There must be a lot of good white people around, and we hardly met them before! Where did they come from? Grown-ups and children with open hearts.

Camilla’s little ones loved me being with them. Young David was just starting to walk, and he’d keep walking out of the door wanting me to follow him. He’d lead me straight to the woodpile, where I made a stool for him. I also made a tree house for him and Ruth. He liked doing things and helping me.

A lot of my friends came to see me while I was at Camilla’s, Aboriginals who had lived a heartbreaking life trying to cope in the white man’s world. Camilla invited them in and showed them her trust. She left the house open for them if she had to go out for the day.

All these events inspired me to want to write a book. I reckoned that the way the high-society people shared with me would tell something to the world about equality, and having love for people from different races. I reckon if people knew about true Aboriginal qualities – so similar to the Baha’i beliefs – then this would help the world do things from the heart. I think for people to learn about Aboriginality might even be the saving of the world.

I asked Camilla to help me write my book and she agreed. Twenty-five years later, we have been still working out every thing I want to say.”

Banjo Clarke said it best in this quote which appears on the back cover of the book, “Life should be looked upon as a sacred thing, to be handled carefully. If something terrible happens, you stop for a while and have a think, and then you work around the next big problem coming up. Like water around a rock. And you still help people when you can, even your worst enemy.”

As I indicated previously the beauty of this book is that when you read about Banjo Clarke you will be reading his words, his thoughts and connecting to his heart. You will have a greater understanding of the Aboriginal way which is to embrace all life.

Ritmo which means rhythm in Italian and Spanish is quite an appropriate title for this CD by Klay D-C. This is a very uplifting up tempo CD that has a mixture of Smooth Jazz, Fusion and Latin rhythms that just keeps you moving. The opening track called Mungabunga followed by Ritmo will have you dancing on your feet or dancing in the chair. Klay’s music is all about the movement. Every tune seems to flow beautifully into the next so you can actually just listen to the CD from beginning to end with out skipping a track. Klay D-C masterfully plays the piano and fender Rhodes/Synths. The CD also features Allan Simpson on Guitars, Rene Melonez on Bass, Orefo Orakwue on Bass, Dean Mark on Bass, Jason Short on Guitars, Tony Smith on Guitars, Andrew Milnes on Sax, Mark Saunders on Drums and Bob Morales on Percussion. From Mungabunga to the closing track Bounce it is just one continuous melodious flow. Klay D-C definitely gives us some great rhythms in Ritmo. So get moving and get Ritmo. Carla Collins Offers Her Hysterically Funny View Of The World

When I saw the title of this book, Angels Vampires & Douche Bags I laughed instantly and immediately started reading the book and I did not stop until I finished reading it. Of course it is always helpful to read a book quickly when it is 135 pages verses 600 but I must say that this was such an enjoyable read. Actually most of the topics covered by Carla in this book are heavy and pretty serious yet I was able to take the journey with her with a smile on my face. If you want a definition of what it means to be an angel, a vampire or a douche bag this is the book to read. According to Carla we all at some point in life experience elements of all three whether it is by our own hand or the hands of others. On the back of the book cover it say’s, “ Attract more angels into your life, control your vampires, and keep all the douche bags at bay. Angels, Vampires and Douche Bags is original, edgy, uplifting and laugh-out loud funny.” In my opinion it is all true. If you need a good laugh with some helpful tips on how to get through some tough times with a sense of humor then you will want to read this book. Even after reading about Carla’s life the mere thought of this book just makes me smile. Proverbs 31 The Virtuous Black Woman By Russel Blake is a moving heart warming tribute. Russel makes it a point to say that, “this is neither a proposition nor a premise that Black women are morally or ethnically superior to any other ethnicity for we are all God’s children. The strength of the idea is to communicate the precious and priceless value/existence of black women to the minds of black men, the rights to be treated with unwavering respect and dignity in the minds of black women and the seeds of reverence to be sown by virtue of changing perception one community at a time.”

When I started reading the book I immediately could see that this obviously is a man who cares deeply and respects his mother. He appreciates her love, her nurturing and guidance that lives deeply within even though she has left this physical earth. This heart driven, heart inspired book has warm words, movement and a sincerity that lies deep within the soul that started with the gift given to him by the love of his mother. This book truly flows like the beauty of a waterfall dancing in the heart like an inspired melodious song.

I saw The Bike Trip at the Frigid New York Festival and it turned out to be a very memorable theater experience. The Bike Trip is an excellent monologue written and performed by Martin Dockery. Martin’s presence and his voice take complete control of the stage whether he is projecting loudly or whispering. You will travel with Martin extensively as he visits San Francisco, India and Switzerland. With his hands he leads and molds the scenery subtly, clearly, vividly drawing the audience into every single emotional, physical and psychological detail which includes his reflections on his own trip as well as references to the experimental LSD trip of the late Chemist Albert Hofmann. Martin has mastered his talents to the point in which he is able to capture your attention and maintain it every single second by creating a very solid visual picture as if everything he describes is right there in front of you. He has the ability to draw the audience in to his story that is carefully crafted with his voice, with his body, with his hands. The transitions are unnoticeable and very smooth as he travels from place to place. Martin is an excellent writer and a great actor who truly commands the stage. Props usually add depth to a scene but with Martin no props are needed because he can create what ever he wants with his skilled expressive hands. So if The Bike Trip shows up in your neighborhood, see it. You will not be disappointed. You will be captivated by Martin’s superb performance as he brings each scene to life. Global Kiss by Steve Oliver is a smooth, positive uplifting CD that will give you absolute joy. The first track Fun In The Sun just makes you want to dance. The title track Global Kiss will keep you moving with the toe tapping and finger snapping beat that will take you on a rhythmic musical journey around the world. The title for the cut Long Road is so appropriate. It felt like I was taking a very pleasant ride. Barcelo features more of the guitar strumming Steve Oliver is known for. The wonderful thing about Life Goes On is that we get to hear Steve Oliver sing which adds another dimension to the CD. Ba Aye just continues to go with the flow of the entire CD with the beautiful vibes played by Alan Hewitt, and the outstanding piano work of Tom Schuman topping it off with the sassy saxophone of Will Donato. Sunlight Within is just another great cut on the CD. Fearless opens up with Steve Madaio on trumpet and then of course we get to hear Steve sing again. In True Vision Steve starts the serenade with beautiful Spanish Guitar and then takes it to another up tempo level. Take Me Away Distant Shore features Steve on vocals again and there is never enough of that and with the added talents of Humberto Vela on percussion this tune is very memorable. The title of this track is perfect because it will take you away to a very good place. Angel Amore is warm and soft and a perfect closing for this incredible Global Journey. Steve Oliver is an excellent guitarist and his talent is clearly evident in his new CD release Global Kiss. If you need to get away listen to Global Kiss. John Young Gives A Significant Reminder In His Song The Underside

When I encountered John Young’s music pledge site while listening to his classic, thoughtful tunes I really wanted to interview him about his diverse career working with so many recording artists including Asia, Bonnie Tyler, and the Scorpions to name just a few. During the actual interview I found myself being drawn deeper into his original melodic compositions because of the heart opening stories behind the music. Music is a large part of my life. It is my best friend, a constant companion that I carry with me always. The interview with John reminded me about how instrumental music is to all life. It is a universal healer and a universal language that truly has the ability to inform, open our consciousness and touch our hearts. Music communicates with all of us in some way. I think about the moments in life when it was a song that led me out of despair and often times many of the musicians behind those songs that uplifted me were struggling to survive. It seems rather ironic that one person’s insights, heartache or pain can be a source for creating something that gives so much harmony and light to others.

When I was younger I remember my mom Mattie Pearl and my grandmother Sarah telling me about the joys of listening to music in church or people just getting together and picking up what ever they could find, washboards, etc. to make music, to create joy. It was not about having fancy instruments. It was about having fun and creating music from what ever you had. The important thing was that it was in your heart and from there you could create music that would make you clap your hands, snap your fingers, nod your head, and tap your feet. It was a wonderful escape for them as young children and young adults from the struggles of the South here in the United States. The pain was gone while the music was playing. Music has been the saving grace for many through out time.

As I listen to the Underside and I reflect on John’s moving story about being in first class on a plane and seeing the faces of poverty on the movie screen staring directly at the passengers. I am grateful that he created this touching song that reminds us of how important it is to remember those who are suffering and lacking in basic necessities. There is no escape from the truth, from the reality which is we are all connected and we must all collectively do what ever we can to reach out to help others. I truly do appreciate the understanding, the closeness, the harmony and the unity that is created in this world because of music. Just listening to the Underside has given me a special sacred time of introspection and reflection that is treasured because it took me outside of my busy world by gently nudging me to look at myself and to face the harsh reality of others that are having such a difficult time. Sometimes in our hurried world we get so caught up in ourselves that we forget about others who are less fortunate. The Underside inspires one to look with care and compassion at those who have so little and are in need of so much more. The Underside reminds us to never forget that we truly are all connected and it is up to all of us to make it so it is better for the whole rather than the few. I highly recommend that you take the time to listen to John Young’s work and make a pledge to see him live.

I can see why this book has been recognized. This cookbook which shares Ventures Into the New Israeli Cuisine immediately resonated with me because of the title. I have always felt that the most important ingredient in food preparation is love. Certainly Ruth managed to create a beautiful book that is filled with valuable information on how to cut cholesterol and fat, useful substitutions, entertaining and more tips. This cook book is filled with recipes for beverages, appetizers, soups, salads, vegetables, main entrées, breads, roll, sauces, dips, spreads, deserts. There is a recipe in this book for any diet whether you are a vegetarian or a meat eater. For those of you who are looking for some thing different to make using tofu there are some terrific recipes. This is a book for the experienced cook or for a beginner. Easier With Practice A Kyle Patrick Alvarez Film

Easier With Practice is a great film Written and Directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez based on a true story by Davy Rothbart. This is definitely well written. This is a writer’s film indeed with the intricate character development as well as the fine direction and the excellent acting talents of Brian Geraghty and Kel Oneill. I was quite intrigued watching the opening of the film which focused on couples depicted in oil paintings. It was quite creative because it immediately captured my attention drawing me deeper into the film. I loved the angles and the way the movie was filmed. The perspective made it even more definite that the viewers are the observers watching this deeply introspective almost reclusive character, unpublished novelist Davy Mitchell unfold as he gets a random call that gets him drawn into a very seductive telephone relationship with the mysterious Nicole. Just when you think that you have every thing figured out there is the surprise ending which adds an unexpected twist. It is interesting that this is Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s debut in screen writing and film direction. The title of the film is Easier With Practice which is rather ironic because it seems that Kyle Patrick Alvarez managed to write and direct a fine feature film on the first try. Like the film say’s it will get easier with practice which means that I hope that we will see many more films written and directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez. Easier With Practice is a Forty Second Productions Film and it runs approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. I highly recommend that you see this film. Family Jewels starring Jennifer Christopher, Josh Carmichael, Wyatt Carmichael and Ethan Carmichael is a wonderful film about Carol, a mother and a U.S. soldier who is about to deploy to Afghanistan. The night before she leaves her family wants to make sure that she has a memorable farewell before her departure. This short received rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival and I understand why. The acting, the direction and the production quality of this film is excellent. Once I started watching Family Jewels I was captivated. So if you can see it please do. My only complaint is that it was too short approximately 20 minutes. To the creators and producers of this film I say don’t leave me hanging. I want to know what happens to Carol when she goes off to war. How does Kurt, her husband manage with their two boys, Ethan and Wyatt while she is away from her family. Now I am left with all of these questions and now you must answer them by turning this short into a feature length film. For now I would be happy seeing this excellent short as an opener for a major feature film release. Family Jewels is an American Film Institute production in association with Society Film Works. I have always had a passion for butterflies and the symbolism of their magnificent transformation from a precious creature that crawls to this awesome delicate creature that flies and spreads beauty every where it lands. This story book is about the struggles of the caterpillar called Anew who represents so many of us who are currently in a seemingly comfortable place/stage in life. It is easy to stay in the comfort zone. It is not easy to make subtle or bold moves without apprehension and fear. Yet we learn as Anew does that change is constant and the beauty of the present is that it propels us forward to the next level. When we watch Anew make his powerful transformation into the beautiful delightful butterfly we are reminded of this wonderful evolutionary process. The photography by Greg Asbury is spectacular and reading about the philosophy behind the Chakra Gardens is fascinating and enlightening. Each page just gets better and better. I enjoyed visiting every single garden which included the earth garden, water garden, sun garden, heart garden, sound garden, spiral garden and the Lucuma Tree Garden. Who does she think she is? It is indeed a good question. In this case it is a wonderful, engaging documentary film featuring the Academy Award Winning Director Pamela Tanner Boll and her co-Director Nancy Kennedy who has assembled an outstanding crew to bring forth the stories, the work, the talent of five women artists. The women artists are Maye Torres a thirteenth generation Taosena, Janis Wunderlich a Mormon mother of five children, Mayumi Oda who was born in Japan right after World War II, Camille Musser, a painter living in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Angela Williams, mother of two nearly-teen-age girls who got married when she was 20. This film presents a glimpse of their incredible journey as they struggle with parenting, creativity, partnering, independence, economics, art, and their determination to be true to themselves. It is a heartwarming look at five different women artists who share so much though their backgrounds and geographic locations are miles apart. So Who Does She Think She Is? I love “Skin” – It is an important thought provoking, heart opening film Directed by Anthony Fabian with an outstanding cast including Sophie Okonedo, Sam Neill and Alice Krige. Skin is an extraordinary true story of Sandra Laing, a South African child who is distinctly African looking, born to White Afrikaners who are unaware of their Black ancestry. It is a must see for everyone around the world. It is about family, forgiveness and the triumph of the human spirit. When the issue of Skin touches a family it truly goes to the heart of the matter which is love. Skin brings the issue of race and skin to another dimension when it touches this family. What this film encourages and inspires is that we must go beyond the “Skin” and the physical. We must deal with people heart to heart beneath the surface of the “Skin.” When you do that you are transformed because the heart reflects love and love brings peace!!! With all of our so called outer differences beneath the surface the flesh looks the same. I am thankful to Director Anthony Fabian for listening to the story and bringing it to film with such sensitivity and style. It is truly about all of us going deeper and encouraging others to do the same. It is beautifully acted!!! It is beautifully directed and you will enjoy listening to the music that gently moves the film along. Skin should have a long life in theaters, at home and in schools around the world. Totally the one woman show written and performed by Kimleigh Smith is excellent. Knowing the subject matter (being gang raped in college) before witnessing her incredible performance at the Teatro La Tea Theater in New York City, I had anticipated feeling a bit somber about it. Actually after seeing this play I was amazed at the range of emotions that I experienced while watching this totally awesome performance. Kimleigh is a fantastic writer, a wonderful story teller, a great singer, dancer and an amazing actress. If you wait to meet her after the show you will find her to be an extremely warm, beautiful, genuine person with a lot of energy, heart and spirit. I suggest you take the time to experience Totally. You will be totally entertained, totally impressed and totally moved. She will make you laugh, cry and totally cheer her on as she makes this inspiring transformation from being broken to being whole again. Punctured Hope Sheds Light

Punctured Hope a Toronto Pictures release by Director Bruno Pischiutta and Executive Producer Daria Trifu takes place in Ghana. It is a true story about Trokosi and a young girl’s slavery in today’s West Africa that includes genital mutilation and sexual abuse. Belinda Siamey who plays Edinam gives an incredible performance in this heart wrenching true story that is simply done yet compelling and memorable. There is something to be said for an incredible story and the beauty of simplicity. Bruno has managed the art of taking a complex, subject and presenting it tastefully, simply with sensitivity. The moon has a special significance in terms of the luminance that it brings to the darkness throughout the film. Punctured Hope is an excellent film that sheds light on a topic that is so often buried yet it continues. I highly recommend that you take the time to see Punctured Hope and I promise that the end is worth waiting for. It is moving and unforgettable.
