I first encountered the music of Jeff Green when he released Jessica a moving CD dedicated to the memory of his still born daughter. Green who has a lifelong passion for progressive rock is committed to creating thoughtful melodic music with a compelling story. He did that with his Jessica release and he continues to exhibit the same artistic commitment and integrity in the Elder Creek release which was five years in the making. Elder Creek is inspired by his grandmother who passed away in 2003 suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Her passing from this heart wrenching disease stimulated some very philosophical discussions with his father. What happens when a person loses their memory? Are they someone different or the same person in another place of existence? Jeff Green raises some interesting questions and he strikes the perfect chords in Elder Creek with his amazing band featuring special guest vocalists Sean Filkins and Alan Reed. When you listen to Elder Creek Jeff will take you along on his contemplative musical journey that will move you at the core of your heart and soul.  Elder Creek is another wonderful CD by Jeff Green that will surely be a cherished gem for any collector of great music.

Onward & Upward – Reflections of a Joyful Life By Michael Wiese is an enjoyable insightful read. Michael takes you on a fascinating adventure by opening up his heart and sharing stories about his life experiences from the time that he was a child living in Champaign, Illinois into his later years as an adult stricken with Parkinson’s disease. In his search for a cure he travels to the Amazon to find a powerful jungle medicine called Ayahuasca which leads him to Don Jose Campos, a Peruvian curandero. In reading Michael’s story I was deeply touched by his intimate honest sharings and moved by his gratitude and appreciation for his life experiences. Onward & Upward is such an appropriate title for this book because Michael shares how important it is to live life to the fullest while continuing to grow and develop. In reviewing Michael’s journey I found myself reflecting on my life experiences. It is wonderful when a book can inspire you to have a greater appreciation for your own life. The Cosmic Purr by Aaron Poochigian is a beautiful work of art. I was delighted when I heard about his book of poems because I have always loved poetry and for some reason there have not been many poetry books landing on my desk for me to feature on my program.  The Cosmic Purr was quite refreshing. When I sat down to read it I could not put it down until I had finished the book. Then after reading it I had a lingering feeling to read it again and again. Aaron Poochigian has many dimensions in his poetry. He has a line in one of his poems that truly describes what I felt when I was reading his book of poetry. It reads...“One moment in suspense spiraling outward into eloquence...” I am not going to give you the title of the poem. You will have to read The Cosmic Purr to find out for yourself and believe me his poetry is worth exploring.
